SOLIDU solid shampoo GRANDMA SAID makes use of two magical haircare ingredients: stinging nettle and tamanu oil. It intensely moisturizes and conditions, and is perfect for weak hair that needs more volume. In Lithuania and nearby regions, stinging nettle concoctions have long been used to stimulate hair growth, to improve the shine and appearance of hair. They are rich in minerals (potassium, sodium, magnesium, iron, sulfur, silicon, chlorine, etc.). Silica strengthens the hair while sulfur can help prolong the growth phase of hair. Together, these minerals also help with itchy scalp caused by dryness. Native to Southeast Asia, tamanu oil is pressed from tamanu nuts rich in nutrients (like linoleic, oleic, palmitic and stearic acids) and used to regenerate and restore your hair and scalp to its healthy state. In GRANDMA SAID we use it cold-pressed and unrefined. Very thick in consistency and full of aroma, it naturally smells like freshly cut grass and raw nuts. It is often used on weak hair to help restore the health of the hair and scalp, promoting faster growth of healthy and strong hair, and restoring its natural shine.

We finish up by adding cedarwood, rosemary, and juniper essential oils that both stimulate your scalp and give GRANDMA SAID shampoo its resinous, woodsy scent.

I’ve used this twice now and LOVE it! My hair and skin are very dry and sensitive. There’s no build up on my hair as I always use shampoos from the health shop but I struggled to get one that doesn’t leave my skin and scalp itchy or dry out my hair even more. I did find one (Theorie) but have been unable to get it locally anymore with the lockdowns and buying online isn’t an option as traditional shampoos are big, bulky, heavy and deemed liquids so very expensive to ship. This seemed like the perfect solution plus eliminates plastics which is super important to me at it is. Looking forward to seeing the condition of my hair improve more. Thanks again Vaiva x

Best solid shampoo I’ve ever tried!
I have been waiting with my review because I really wanted to see how it holds up long term. I have bought “Grandma said” in February, for the last four months it has been the only shampoo I’ve used, and I still have a good chunk left, enough to last me another 1-2 months. I have about chin length, wavy 2a/2b type hair, low porosity, I’d say more on the fine-medium side, and I usually wash it twice a week.
Firstly, this shampoo is just as easy to use as a liquid shampoo, I have no trouble at all distributing it onto my hair and scalp, when working up a lather, it feels a little gritty (from the nettle, I think), but that only serves to give it more body and it really helps freeing my scalp from any buildup. With other solid shampoos, I’ve struggled with buildup and residue at the roots, not with this one, my hair looks healthy and has a lot of volume. I also struggled with an itchy scalp before, this shampoo has helped noticeably with that. The one claim where I couldn’t observe any change is it stimulating hairgrowth, but I didn’t expect any miracles on that end.
All Solidu scents are very strong, though I am pleased to say that even though I am sensitive to smell these don’t trigger a headache for me, as the scent doesn’t linger after washing. “Grandma said” has a pleasant green, earthy scent.
I’ve been using this in combination with the pink Hair Candy conditioner, I will write a seperate review on that.
If I could make a wish, I would really love for Solidu to come out with products specifically for curly/wavy hair. The combo I’m using now is good but something that would help my curls form and maybe help prevent frizz would be great.

  5. liisi1brett

It foams a little less, than other SOLIDU shampoos, but that isn’t a problem as I shampoo twice anyway. Smells earthy, kind of like moss. It made my hair a bit heavier, than other shampoos, but that is barely noticeable.

How to use a solid shampoo?

Step 1: Wet the hair and the shampoo bar. Lather the bar in your hands. Go over your hair with the shampoo, massage, and thoroughly rinse. Repeat if needed.

Step 2: If your hair needs it, follow with a conditioner bar.

Step 3: Store the bar in a dry place between uses. Don’t store a wet bar inside the compostable box.

Step 4: Tear off the labels and recycle with paper. The natural box can be backyard composted, place it in the ground or in a compost bin.

WHAT IS AROMATHERAPY?

Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils for improving one‘s quality of life. Most people experience stress and various negative feelings throughout their life. The ways we deal with stress determines how it affects our well-being. When we talk about stress we usually refer to psychological or emotional tension, however, stress is also a physical condition. Running a marathon, shift work, intensive manual labour, prolonged exposure to heat or cold, chronic pain, inadequate diet and mineral or vitamin deficiencies are all examples of physical stress. Aromatherapy can help relieve various symptoms of stress, and do so in a natural way.

WHAT ARE ESSENTIAL OILS?

Essential oil is a liquid comprised of natural volatile compounds, mostly of hydrocarbons called terpenes, extracted from various parts of beneficial plants. This is done by simply distilling or steam distilling those plant parts, as well as (when it comes to citrus fruits) by using a procedure called expression.Every plant species has a unique combination of around 100 or more different kinds of terpenes, which enables them to have a distinct scent. Terpenes may be found in a plant‘s blossom, roots, leaves, bark, stem or seeds.

It foams a little less, than other SOLIDU shampoos, but that isn’t a problem as I shampoo twice anyway. Smells earthy, kind of like moss. It made my hair a bit heavier, than other shampoos, but that is barely noticeable.
